Extremely low permeability

With its dense structure and its hydrophobic nature Thio Material is nearly impervious and is characterized by a very low permeability. The water absorption fluctuates between 0.2 % and 0.5%, which is very low in comparison with cement concrete, which water absorption values lie between 3 % – 8%. This very low absorption capacity protects the material against the penetration of all kinds of fluids and corrosion processes such as freeze-thaw cycles, which originate from it. For applications where water absorption is not permitted, this material is particularly suitable (e.g. in the case of counterweights for overhead wires for railways).

  • Tested in accordance with: NEN EN 12350-2 : 2000 (water absorption); NEN EN 1339 (thaw-and-frost cycles)
